What is a PDF file?
PDF stands for Portable Document Format. It is a file that keeps its exact layout - fonts, spacing, images, page size - identical on every device and printer, unlike a Word document, which can reflow differently depending on what opens it.
- PDF Basics
Why is my PDF so large?
Almost always, it's the images. Real text and vector graphics take up almost no space; a page that is actually a high-resolution photo or scan can be several megabytes on its own. Upload your PDF to the compressor, choose a compression level, and download the smaller file.
- PDF Basics
What can you do to the pages inside a PDF?
Five separate jobs get called "editing PDF pages": reordering, rotating, deleting, extracting a subset, and merging pages from other files. Each has its own tool, and the board-style page organiser can do the first three at once.
- Convert
How to convert a PDF into an editable Word document
Upload your PDF to the PDF to Word converter, choose whether to rebuild tables and include images, then download the .docx. It opens directly in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.

How to convert a PDF to plain text
Upload your PDF, click Extract text, and copy the plain text directly or download it as a .txt file. Real, selectable text converts directly; a scanned PDF has none to extract and needs OCR first.
- Convert
How to convert a PDF to Markdown
Upload your PDF, click Extract text, and switch to the Markdown view. Headings come from font size, list items are recognised from bullets or numbers, and tables with clean columns become real Markdown tables - then download as .md.

Can't copy text from a PDF? Here's why, and how to fix it
Usually one of two things: the PDF is a scan with no real text at all (needs OCR), or it has real text but your PDF viewer's selection is behaving oddly (upload it here instead and extract the text directly). Check the PDF Inspector if you are not sure which.
- Organize
How to combine multiple PDFs into one file
Upload your PDF files, drag them into the order you want, click Merge PDF, and download the combined file.

PDF pages sideways? Here's how to rotate them
Upload your PDF, choose the direction to turn (90°, 180°, or 270°), pick which pages, then download the corrected file.
- Compress
Make a PDF smaller without losing quality
Upload your PDF to the compressor, choose a compression level, and download the smaller file. Balanced suits most documents; Strong gives the smallest result for scans and photo-heavy files.
- Compress
Why won't my PDF compress below 100KB?
A PDF's size floor is set by what is actually inside it. A page that is a full scanned photograph has real detail that has to be thrown away to shrink further, and there is a point past which doing that makes the page illegible - a good compressor stops there rather than forcing an arbitrary number. A PDF made of real text and vector graphics, by contrast, is already close to its floor and was never going to shrink much regardless of the target.

- Edit & Sign
How to remove a PDF password
Upload the PDF, enter the password you already know, and download the unlocked copy - this needs the correct password and does not bypass or crack one you do not have.
- Edit & Sign
How to fill out a PDF form online for free
Upload the form to a PDF form filler. If it has real fillable fields, you get one input per field - type into text boxes, tick checkboxes, and pick options from dropdowns and radio buttons - then download the completed PDF.
- Inspect & Extract
How to save the pictures inside a PDF as image files
Upload your PDF to the image extractor, review the images it finds, then download the ones you need as PNG files.
- Inspect & Extract
Is your PDF a scan, or does it have real text?
Open the PDF Inspector - it shows the page count, each page's size, whether the document has real selectable text or is a scan, and other useful details, without changing the file at all.
- Inspect & Extract
How to compare two PDF files and see what changed
Add both PDFs to a PDF comparison tool. It extracts the text from each and shows you every line that was added, removed or changed - no need to read both documents side by side.
- Guides & Use Cases
PDF tools for students
Most student PDF jobs come down to five tools: merge (combine reading packs or assignment parts), compress (fit an upload limit), organize (fix scanned page order), convert to Word (edit a PDF handout), and extract pages (pull just the reading you need).
- Guides & Use Cases
PDF tools for business
Business PDF work usually means combining documents into a single client-ready file, marking drafts clearly, keeping attachments under size limits, and occasionally converting a report back to an editable format. Six tools cover nearly all of it.
- Guides & Use Cases
PDF tools for contracts and invoices
Create the invoice itself with the Invoice Generator, sign a contract with Sign PDF, mark a document CONFIDENTIAL with Watermark PDF, and combine supporting receipts or annexes with Merge PDF.
- Guides & Use Cases

- Excel & Data
How to match two spreadsheets without writing a formula
Upload both files, click the matching column in each table (the connector shows what you picked), tick the columns you want copied across, then run it and download the result.
- Excel & Data
Excel names don't match? Find similar records with fuzzy matching
Open Fuzzy Lookup, upload both files, pick the column to match on, and set how close counts as a match. It finds records like "ABC Trading LLC" and "ABC Trading L.L.C." that an exact match would miss, and flags anything too close to call for you to review.
- Excel & Data
How to find duplicate rows in Excel
Upload your spreadsheet, choose which columns define a duplicate (or use the whole row), and the tool lists every duplicate group so you can review and remove them.
- Excel & Data
Find near-duplicate records even when the names differ slightly
Upload your spreadsheet, choose the column that should be unique, and set how close counts as a match. Records like "Jon Smith" and "John Smith" - the same person, entered slightly differently - are grouped as likely duplicates for you to review.
- Excel & Data
How to clean messy Excel data without writing formulas
Upload your spreadsheet and the cleaner trims extra spaces, fixes inconsistent capitalisation, standardises dates and numbers, and drops blank rows - reviewable before you apply anything.
- Excel & Data
What's actually in this spreadsheet? Check before you build on it
Open the Data Profiler - it shows what each column actually contains, how much is missing, and where the likely quality problems are, without changing your file at all.
- Excel & Data
How to compare two Excel files and find what changed
Upload both files, pick the column that identifies each row (like an ID), and the comparison shows exactly which rows were added, removed, or changed - and which specific values differ.
- Excel & Data
How to reconcile two Excel reports and find differences
Upload both reports, choose the reference column and the amount column, and the tool matches records between them and flags anything missing, extra, or where the amount does not agree.
- Excel & Data
Why does Excel drop leading zeros from my CSV?
Excel treats every CSV value as "General" format when it opens the file, which means anything that looks like a number is read as one - and a real number can never start with a zero, so it is dropped. Converting the CSV to Excel with those columns explicitly typed as text, rather than opening the CSV directly, avoids the problem entirely.
- Excel & Data
Why does Excel show my CSV numbers as 1.23E+12?
Excel's number type reliably stores about 15 significant digits. A 16-digit card or account number read in as a number gets rounded to fit and displayed in scientific notation - and the digits past the 15th are genuinely gone, not just hidden behind the display format. The fix is to keep that column as text from the start, rather than trying to reformat it back afterward.
- Excel & Data
Why does my CSV open in one column in Excel?
This happens when the file uses a different delimiter (usually a semicolon) than the comma Excel expects by default in your regional settings - common with files exported from systems set up for a European locale, where a comma is the decimal separator and a semicolon separates fields instead. Converting the file with the correct delimiter detected, or using Excel's Text to Columns feature, fixes it.
- Images
Need a smaller image for email? Compress it in your browser
Upload your image, choose a quality level or a target file size in KB, and download the smaller result. A photo usually shrinks the most; a screenshot or graphic responds less.
- Images
How to resize an image without installing software
Upload your image, set the new width or height (the other dimension can scale automatically to keep the proportions), and download the resized file.
- Images
How to convert a PNG to JPG
Upload your PNG, choose the output quality, and download it as a JPG. Transparency is not supported in JPG, so any transparent area is filled with a solid background first.
- Images
JPG or PNG? How to choose, and convert between them
JPG compresses the image for a smaller file, at a small cost to quality, and has no transparency - use it for photographs. PNG stores the image losslessly and supports transparency, at a larger file size - use it for screenshots, diagrams, logos and anything with sharp lines, text or a transparent background.
- Images
Does your photo reveal your location?
Upload the photo to an EXIF viewer to see what it carries - camera model, date, and GPS coordinates if location was on when it was taken. Then remove it before sharing, which for a JPEG can be done without recompressing or changing the image at all.
- Images
Remove photo metadata before selling online
A marketplace photo taken at home can carry the exact GPS coordinates of your address in its metadata, even if nothing in the photo itself shows where you live. Remove it before posting - one click, no change to how the photo looks.
- OCR
Can't copy text from an image? Here's how to extract it
Upload the image to the OCR tool, and the text is read and returned as real, selectable text you can copy or download - typically within a few seconds.
- OCR
How to convert an image to text
Upload the JPG, PNG or WebP file to the OCR tool and it reads the text in the image, returning it as real text you can copy or download as a .txt file.
- OCR
Need text from a screenshot? Extract it in your browser
Upload the screenshot to the OCR tool. Screenshots usually convert very accurately, since the text in them is typically crisp and high-contrast rather than photographed.
- OCR
How to extract text from a scanned PDF
Upload the scanned PDF to the OCR tool and choose PDF to Text. Each page is read in turn, and any page that already has real text is used directly rather than re-read - only pages that are genuinely scans get OCR.
- OCR
How to make a scanned PDF searchable
Upload the scanned PDF, choose Scanned PDF to Searchable PDF, and download the result. It looks pixel-for-pixel identical to the original - the only change is an invisible text layer underneath that makes Ctrl+F, text selection and copy-paste all work.
- OCR
How to OCR a PDF in your browser
Upload the PDF to the OCR tool. Choose PDF to Text if you want the words themselves, or Scanned PDF to Searchable PDF if you want the document to keep looking the same but become searchable and selectable.
- Barcode & QR
How to scan a QR code from a photo or screenshot
Upload the image to the barcode scanner and the QR code is found and decoded automatically - no button to press. Copy the value, or open it directly if it is a link.
- Barcode & QR
How to scan a barcode online
Upload a photo of the barcode to the barcode scanner - EAN, UPC, Code 128, Code 39 and several other common formats are decoded automatically, and the value is shown as plain text to copy.
- Barcode & QR
Need to read a QR code from a screenshot? Do it in your browser
Upload the screenshot directly - there is nothing to point a camera at here, and there does not need to be. The code is read straight out of the image file, decoded automatically, in your browser.
- Barcode & QR
QR code won't scan? Here's how to read it anyway
A camera app giving up on a QR code is usually about image quality - blur, glare, a damaged or low-contrast print - not that the code is unreadable. Upload a photo of it here instead; a dedicated decoder is often more persistent than a camera app's live scanner.

How to calculate your GPA
Multiply each course's grade points by its credit hours, add those up, then divide by the total credit hours. A 4-credit A (4.0) and a 3-credit B+ (3.3) give (4.0x4 + 3.3x3) / 7 = 3.69.
- Money & Calculators
10-point CGPA to US GPA conversion
There is no single official formula - US institutions and credential evaluators each apply their own method, commonly either a direct proportional scale (CGPA / 10 x 4) or a percentage-based conversion (CGPA x 9.5 to get a percentage, then mapped to a US letter grade band). Always check what the specific institution you are applying to actually uses.

How to calculate VAT in the UAE
The UAE's standard VAT rate is 5%. To add it: multiply the amount by 1.05. To remove it from a VAT-inclusive total: divide by 1.05, do not simply subtract 5% - that overstates the pre-VAT amount and understates the VAT.
- Money & Calculators
VAT-inclusive vs VAT-exclusive price
A VAT-inclusive price already has tax built into the total shown. A VAT-exclusive price does not - tax is added on top at checkout or on the invoice. Converting from inclusive to exclusive means dividing by (1 + rate), not subtracting the tax percentage directly.

How to calculate a salary increase percentage
To find the percentage increase: (new salary − old salary) / old salary x 100. To find a new salary from a known percentage raise: old salary x (1 + percentage/100). A 5% raise on $1,000 gives $1,050.

How to convert a PDF bank statement to CSV
Convert the statement with Bank Statement to Excel and choose Download CSV. You get one row per transaction with ISO dates (YYYY-MM-DD), separate Debit and Credit columns, plain numbers without currency symbols, and UTF-8 encoding that Excel and accounting tools read correctly.
- Money & Calculators
How to extract transactions from a bank statement
Open the statement in Bank Statement to Excel: a locked PDF asks for its password and is unlocked in your browser; a scan is read with OCR. Then use the balance check to confirm every transaction was captured before you rely on the list.

Is it safe to decode a JWT online?
Decoding a JWT's header and payload needs no network request at all - it is just base64 decoding plus JSON parsing, and a tool that genuinely does this client-side never sends your token anywhere. Whether a specific tool actually does that is a separate question worth checking, since not every "online" tool is transparent about it.
- Developer
How to check if a JWT is expired
Paste the token into the JWT Expiry Calculator - it reads the "exp" claim (a Unix timestamp) and shows a plain status (Valid, Expired, or Not yet valid), the exact date and time in your time zone and UTC, and a live countdown, so there is no timestamp math to do by hand.

How to generate a SHA-256 checksum online
Paste the text in and a SHA-256 (or SHA-1, SHA-384, SHA-512) hash is generated instantly, entirely in your browser using the Web Crypto API - nothing is uploaded. MD5 is not offered, since it is cryptographically broken and SHA-256 is the appropriate modern replacement for the same job.

How many characters should a password be?
At least 16 characters for ordinary accounts, per current guidance from CISA and similar bodies - longer is better, and modern NIST guidance allows passwords up to 64 characters. Length matters more than symbol variety for resisting brute-force attacks.

How many pages is 500 words?
500 words is roughly 1 page single-spaced or 2 pages double-spaced, using the common assumption of 12pt Times New Roman with standard margins (~500 words/page single-spaced, ~250 words/page double-spaced). Paste your actual text into a word counter to get both estimates directly rather than doing the division by hand.

X (Twitter) character limit checker
Standard X (Twitter) accounts get 280 characters per post; Premium subscribers can post significantly longer. Paste your draft into a character counter to see the exact count as you write, rather than guessing or trimming after a failed post.
- Everyday & Text
Instagram caption character limit
Instagram captions can be up to 2,200 characters, including hashtags. Only around the first 125 characters show before users have to tap "more" to expand it, so the effective limit for anything you want seen immediately is much shorter than the hard cap.

Convert kilograms to pounds
Multiply kilograms by 2.20462 to get pounds - or, for the exact defined relationship, divide by 0.45359237 (the exact weight of a pound in kilograms). 50kg is approximately 110.23 pounds.

Popular questions
- How do I reduce a PDF file size?
- Upload it to the PDF Compressor, choose a compression level, and download the result. The tool re-encodes embedded images at a lower quality and leaves the text untouched, which is almost always what makes the file smaller. Read the full answer
- Will converting PDF to Word keep the exact formatting?
- Close, but not pixel-perfect. Text, headings, tables and images are recovered and rebuilt in a genuinely editable layout - which for a complex original means some manual tidying, and for a simple one means it's essentially unchanged. Read the full answer
- How do I know if a PDF is scanned or has real text?
- Open it in the PDF Inspector - it checks directly whether the document contains selectable text or is made of images, and reports it plainly rather than leaving you to guess by looking at it. Read the full answer
- How do I reduce a PDF size for WhatsApp?
- Compress it with Balanced or Strong before sending. WhatsApp applies its own compression to documents on send, so starting from a smaller, cleanly compressed file gives you more control over the final quality than leaving it entirely to WhatsApp. Read the full answer
- Is this a legally binding digital signature?
- No - it places a picture of a signature onto the page, the same outcome as signing a printout and scanning it. It doesn't carry certificate-based verification of who signed it, which some legal and regulated documents specifically require. Read the full answer
- How many PDF files can I merge at once?
- There is no fixed limit - add as many as you need. Since merging runs in your browser, the practical limit is your device's available memory rather than an upload cap. Read the full answer
- What's the difference between splitting and extracting pages?
- Splitting divides the whole document into several new files. Extracting pulls out just the specific pages you choose as one new file, leaving the rest of the split aside entirely. Read the full answer
- Can I combine multiple photos into one PDF?
- Yes - add as many images as you need, arrange them in order, and they are combined into a single PDF with one image per page. Read the full answer
- What counts as a "close" match?
- A combination of edit distance (how many character changes separate two values) and how similar the words themselves are, whichever score is higher. "ABC Trading LLC" and "ABC Trading L.L.C." score highly on both. Read the full answer
- Why did my values not match even though they look identical?
- Almost always a formatting difference invisible to the eye: a trailing space, inconsistent capitalisation, or a number stored as text on one side and a real number on the other. The key-quality check flags these before you run anything. Read the full answer
- How do I make an image smaller for email?
- Upload it to the Image Compressor, choose a quality level or a target file size, and download the result. Most email limits (commonly 10-25 MB per message) are comfortably met by a single compressed photo. Read the full answer
- What's the difference between this and Data Reconciliation?
- Comparison is for two versions of essentially the same data (a before and after). Reconciliation is built specifically for checking whether two systems agree on a reference and an amount, like two accounting exports. Read the full answer
