What can you do to the pages inside a PDF?

Quick answer

Five separate jobs get called "editing PDF pages": reordering, rotating, deleting, extracting a subset, and merging pages from other files. Each has its own tool, and the board-style page organiser can do the first three at once.

Free, no sign-up, and your file is read on your own device rather than uploaded.

People say "I need to edit the pages in my PDF" to describe five genuinely different jobs, and knowing which one you have saves picking the wrong tool. This page is a map, not an instruction manual - each job below links to the tool that actually does it.

None of these rewrite the text on a page. They rearrange, remove or add whole pages, which covers the great majority of what people mean when they say a PDF's pages are "in the wrong order" or need "fixing".

Step by step

  1. The pages are in the wrong order

Drag pages into the order you want on a visual board, then apply the change as one step.

    Organise PDF
  2. A page came out sideways or upside down

Rotate individual pages or the whole document, in 90-degree turns.

    Rotate PDF
  3. There are pages you do not want in the file

Remove specific pages and keep everything else, in one pass.

    Delete PDF Pages
  4. You only need some of the pages, as a new file

Pick the pages to keep; everything else is left out of the download.

    Extract PDF Pages
  5. You need pages from more than one PDF in a single file

Combine whole documents, or specific pages from each, into one PDF in the order you choose.

    Merge PDF

Tips

  • The page organiser (organise-pdf) handles reordering, rotating and deleting together on one board, which is usually faster than opening three separate tools for a file that needs more than one fix.
  • Extracting is the opposite of deleting: delete removes the pages you pick and keeps the rest; extract keeps the pages you pick and drops the rest. Pick whichever list is shorter to select.
  • None of these tools touch the words on a page - only convert-to-Word does that. Page tools move, rotate or remove whole pages as they are.

Common problems

You're not sure whether you need to delete or extract.

If you want to remove two pages from a fifty-page file, delete is faster - you only have to select two. If you want three pages out of fifty as a new file, extract is faster - you only have to select three.

You need to do several of these to the same file.

Do them in one visit rather than downloading and re-uploading between each: open the page organiser first for order, rotation and deletion, then use compress, watermark or sign afterwards as needed.

Frequently asked questions

Can I reorder, delete and rotate pages all in one place?
Yes - the page organiser puts every page on a board as a thumbnail. Drag to reorder, rotate individual pages, delete the ones you do not want, then apply everything as a single change.
What's the difference between deleting pages and extracting pages?
Deleting removes the pages you select and keeps everything else. Extracting keeps the pages you select and discards everything else. Same idea, opposite selection.
Can I combine pages from two different PDFs?
Yes, with the PDF merger - it can combine entire files or a chosen range of pages from each one, in whatever order you set.
Will reordering pages change how they look?
No. Reordering only changes the sequence pages appear in - nothing about the page itself, its content or its formatting is touched.
Does any of this let me edit the text on a page?
No. These tools work on whole pages - order, rotation, presence or absence. To change the actual words, convert the PDF to Word first.

Doing several things to this PDF?

"Editing a PDF" is usually one of five different jobs. Open the file once and you can do all of them in sequence - reorder the pages, mark it, number it, sign it and shrink it - then download once at the end.
