These free text tools handle the small, repetitive jobs that come up constantly in writing and editing: checking a word count against a limit, fixing a headline someone typed in capitals, cleaning the spacing out of text copied from a PDF, and filling a design with placeholder copy.

Every one of them works live as you type, with no button to press and no waiting. Your text is processed by your browser and never leaves your device, which matters when the text is an unpublished draft, a client document or anything confidential.

Which text tool do you need?

  • To check a piece against a word or character limit, use the free word counter or the free character counter - both show every figure at once, including reading time.
  • To time a speech, presentation or video script, use the speaking time calculator. Pick a slow, normal or fast pace (or enter your own) and it shows the time in minutes and seconds, plus how many words fit a 1, 3, 5, 10 or 20-minute slot.
  • To fix capitalisation, use the free case converter. It covers Title Case and Sentence case as well as camelCase, snake_case and kebab-case for code.
  • To clean up text pasted from a PDF or a web page, use Remove Extra Spaces. It also joins broken lines back into proper paragraphs.
  • To fill a design or template with dummy copy, use the free Lorem Ipsum generator, which can produce an exact number of words.
  • To see what changed between two versions of a piece, use the free text diff checker. It marks every added, removed and altered line side by side.

Why these run in your browser

Text tools are the ones people paste sensitive things into without thinking: an unpublished article, a legal clause, a covering letter, a customer email. A tool that sends that text to a server for a word count is asking for far more trust than the job requires.

None of these need a server. Counting words, changing case and trimming whitespace are all things a browser does instantly, so that is where they happen. There is no upload, no request, and nothing to retain.

Frequently asked questions

Are these text tools free?

Yes - all of them, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on how much text you paste.

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. Your text never leaves your device. Every tool here works in your browser, so nothing is uploaded, logged or stored.

Is there a limit on how much text I can paste?

No fixed limit. Very long documents may feel slower to type into, because the figures update on every keystroke, but there is no cap.

Do they work on a phone?

Yes. They all work in mobile browsers, and the layouts adapt to narrow screens.

How is reading time worked out?

Words divided by 200, the usual figure for adult silent reading, rounded up to the next minute. Speaking time in the word counter uses 130 words a minute; the speaking time calculator lets you choose your own pace.
