Free Rotate PDF Pages

Free to useNo sign-up requiredNo watermarkRuns in your browser

This free PDF rotator turns pages a quarter, a half or three quarters of a turn and saves the result, so the document opens the right way up everywhere rather than only in the reader where you rotated it.

You can turn the whole document or just the pages that need it — useful for a scan where one sheet went through the feeder the wrong way round.

How this tool works

  1. Open your PDF

Drag it in or browse. Every page is previewed as it is now.

  2. Choose the turn

90° right, 180°, or 90° left. The turn is applied on top of any rotation the document already has.

  3. Choose the pages

Every page is selected to begin with, since rotating the lot is the common case. Deselect the ones that are already correct.

  4. Rotate and download

The rotation is written into the file, so it survives being emailed, printed and reopened.

How it works

A PDF page carries a rotation property that tells the reader how to display it. Setting that property is all a rotation is: nothing is re-rendered and nothing is re-compressed, so the page loses no quality no matter how many times it is turned.

The turn is added to whatever rotation the page already declares rather than replacing it. A scan that arrives at 90° and is given another 90° ends up at 180°, which is what "turn it again" should mean.

This is different from rotating the view in a PDF reader. That changes how the page is shown to you and is usually forgotten when the file is closed; this changes the file.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded anywhere?

No. The file is opened and changed by this page on your own device, using your browser. It is never sent to VSThiran and no copy is stored on any server. It is held only in the tab you have open, which is also why reloading the page clears it.

Why does the preview still show the old orientation?

The thumbnails show the document as it currently stands. Apply the rotation and they are rendered again from the new version, so what you see afterwards is the real result rather than a CSS preview of it.

Does rotating lose quality?

No. The page content is not touched at all — only a rotation flag is set — so the text stays selectable and images are not re-compressed.

Can I use another PDF tool on the result without downloading it first?

Yes. Once a PDF is open, the other PDF tools pick it up as it currently stands, so you can organise, watermark, number, sign and compress a document from a single upload and download once at the end. Conversions to Word, Excel or images produce a different kind of file, so those finish the sequence rather than continuing it.
