Free Lorem Ipsum Generator
Generate placeholder text by paragraph, sentence or exact word count.
Free to useNo sign-up requiredNo watermarkRuns in your browser
This free Lorem Ipsum generator produces placeholder text in the amount you actually need - a set number of paragraphs, sentences or exact words - rather than a fixed wall of text you have to trim.
Placeholder text exists so that people reviewing a design look at the design. Real copy pulls attention to the words; obviously fake Latin keeps the conversation on layout, spacing and hierarchy.
How this tool works
Choose paragraphs, sentences or words
Word mode is useful when a component has a hard limit and you want to see it filled exactly.
Set how many
Anything from one to two hundred.
Copy or download
Press "Generate again" for a different arrangement of the same length.
How it works
Text is assembled from the traditional Lorem Ipsum vocabulary, with sentences of varying length so the result has a natural rhythm rather than an obviously repeating pattern.
Paragraph mode produces three to five sentences per paragraph, which is close to typical body copy and makes for a fair test of line height and spacing.
The opening can start with the familiar "Lorem ipsum" so reviewers immediately recognise it as placeholder, or begin elsewhere if you would rather it looked less conventional.
Generation is deterministic for a given setting, so the text stays stable while you adjust your layout, and changes only when you ask for it.
How much text do you need?
| Card or tile description | 1 to 2 sentences |
|---|---|
| Blog intro paragraph | 40 to 60 words |
| Standard body paragraph | 50 to 80 words |
| Full article mock-up | 5 to 8 paragraphs |
| Meta description test | About 25 words |
| Hero subheading | 10 to 20 words |
When not to use placeholder text
- Never ship it. Lorem Ipsum reaching production is a genuinely common and embarrassing bug - search your codebase before release.
- Avoid it when testing whether a design works with real content. Actual copy varies in length in ways Lorem Ipsum does not.
- Avoid it for anything a client signs off as final, unless it is clearly labelled as placeholder.
- It is Latin-alphabet only, so it will not reveal problems with Arabic, Chinese or other scripts your product may need to support.
Worked examples
Testing a card grid
Generate two sentences at a time and paste into each card to see how uneven lengths affect the layout.
Checking a word limit
Word mode with an exact count shows precisely how a 50-word summary field will look when full.
Mocking up an article
Six paragraphs gives a realistic scroll length for checking typography and line spacing.
Frequently asked questions
Is this Lorem Ipsum generator free?
Yes, free with no sign-up and no limit on how much text you generate.
What is Lorem Ipsum?
Scrambled Latin, loosely derived from a first-century BC text by Cicero, used as placeholder copy in printing and design since the 1500s. It is deliberately meaningless so that people assess the layout rather than reading the words.
Is the text generated on a server?
No. It is produced by your browser, so nothing is requested from a server and the tool works the moment the page has loaded.
Can I generate an exact number of words?
Yes. Switch to word mode and enter the count - useful for checking a field with a strict limit.
Does it always start with "Lorem ipsum"?
By default, because that makes it instantly recognisable as placeholder. You can turn that off if you prefer the text to start elsewhere.
