PDF Page Counter
Free to useNo sign-up requiredNo watermarkRuns in your browser
Printing quotes, translation estimates, court bundles and scanning jobs are all priced by the page, and opening fifty PDFs one at a time to read the page number off the corner is nobody’s idea of a good afternoon. This counter takes one file or a whole folder’s worth at once and lists the pages in each, with a running total.
It only reads what it needs - each file’s page tree - so large documents are counted in a moment and nothing is rendered. A damaged or password-protected file is flagged on its own row without stopping the rest. Your files are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded.
How this tool works
Choose your PDFs
Select or drop one file or many. You can add more afterwards.
Read the counts
Each file shows its pages and size; the total across all readable files is at the top.
Check any flagged rows
Files that are not PDFs, are damaged or need a password are named with the reason.
Copy the list
Copy the table as tab-separated text to paste into a spreadsheet or quote.
How it works
Each file is opened with pdf.js in your browser and its page count is read from the document’s page tree. No page is drawn and no text is extracted, which is why counting is fast even for long documents.
Files are read one after another through a single background worker, so a batch of hundreds of files does not overload a phone. A file that fails - wrong type, empty, damaged or password protected - is marked on its own row and the batch carries on.
Files up to 200 MB each are accepted. Password-protected files are reported as such; the page count of an encrypted document cannot be read without its password.
Common use cases
- Pricing a print, binding or scanning job by the page.
- Estimating a translation, proofreading or legal review from a folder of documents.
- Checking that a court bundle, submission or application pack is within a page limit.
- Confirming that a merge or split produced the number of pages you expected.
Page counter, word counter or PDF inspector?
Use this counter when you need page numbers for many files quickly. The PDF word counter reads the text and counts words, which takes longer. The PDF inspector goes deep on one document open in the PDF workspace: page sizes, rotation, images, links and whether it is a scan.
Formula
Total pages
sum of pages in every file that could be read
Average pages per file
total pages ÷ number of files counted
Worked examples
Quoting a print job
Twelve PDFs dropped at once show 4, 18, 2, 36 and so on, with a total of 214 pages - the figure the print shop asks for.
A mixed batch
Among 30 files, one is a Word document renamed to .pdf and one needs a password. Both are flagged by name; the other 28 are counted and totalled.
Frequently asked questions
Are my PDFs uploaded?
No. Your files are processed locally in your browser and are not uploaded. The page count is read on your device.
How many files can I count at once?
There is no fixed number. Files are counted one after another, so large batches simply take a little longer. Each file can be up to 200 MB.
Why can’t it count a password-protected PDF?
When a PDF needs a password to open, its structure is encrypted and the page count cannot be read without the password. Files that only restrict printing or copying open normally and are counted.
Does it count blank pages?
Yes. Every page in the document counts, blank or not - the same number a PDF reader shows. It does not look at page content.
